An unusual 1st type 1898/05 pattern, with high "ears". This example has been nickel plated for parade/dress use.
Maker marked Simson&Co, Suhl at the ricasso. Housed in its original nickel plated scabbard.
This example is unit marked in the crossguard "II M.D. 1502" meaning it was weapon no 1502 of the 2nd Sailors Depot Division (II. Matrosen Division) based at Wilhelmshaven.
