About this item
A nice original British Army Officers Shirt made from poplin cotton and dating from the 1940s.
The shirt is typical of those worn in the first half of the 20th Century in the UK featuring a half placket, or 'tunic', front and a neckband collar. This was worn with detachable collars made from the same material. It is made from a green coloured poplin cotton which was a popular choice for officer's during the Second World War as it is much softer and easier to wear when compared with wool examples.
The original label is still present inside the shirt and features typical 1940s graphics. It bears the maker's name of 'Royal England Service Wear' and the neckband bears the collar size of 15 1/2.
The shirt will suit someone of around a 38" chest, depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 22 1/4"
Outside arm - 24 3/4"
Shoulders - 17 1/4"
Length at back - 37 1/2"
Collar - 15 1/2"
The shirt is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and age. There is a very small repair to the cuff opening but this is only noticble under close inspection. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
An original WW2 shirt with a nice periodlabel.
