    About this item

A rare original 1940 dated British Army Drill Green Battledress Blouse in a size 11 and in nice condition.

At first glance this jacket appears to be a standard wartime pattern Denim Battledress when in fact they are the much rarer drill pattern. Rather than being made of denim, this pattern of tunic is made from cotton drill which is a noticeably more vivid green colour.

The jacket is fitted with the correct flat pattern of revolving shank buttons which were used in the early part of the Second World War. They are held in place with large size brass split rings. The waist belt buckle is the correct early war wire pattern which is held in place with stamped brass buttons as are often encountered on early war manufactured items.

Inside the original label is still present and is still bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Overall Blouse Drill No.4A' below which is the size of 11. The manufacturer's name of 'C.W.S Ltd' is also present which denotes the Co-Operative Wholesale Society as the maker. The date of 29 October 1940 has been added in purple ink and above this is the War Department broad arrow marking.

The jacket is designed to fit someone of a 39" - 41" chest and when laid flat measures -

    Chest - 24 1/2"
    Waist - 19"
    Inside arm - 20 1/2"
    Outside arm - 27 1/2"
    Shoulders - 19"
    Length - 24"

The jacket is in excellent condition and has clearly never been issued or worn. It could be described as deadstock and is still as fresh as when it left the factory, save for a couple of holes to each side above the waistband which are illustrated in the last two pictures. It displays well and it is still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A hard to find original wartime jacket with interesting details and a nice clear label.
