    About this item

For sale is WW2 1940 & 1942 Printed Edition Rank & Badges In The Navy, Army, Raf And Auxiliaries Publication Which can act as an excellent reference book. This publication contains a huge number of British navy, air force, civil defence, army patches, badges, brassards and insignia which is perfect for referencing.

This books foreword states:   “FOREWORD   "RANK AND BADGES" has been designed to assist the Public in recognizing the various arms and branches of the different national services. By means of braid, chevrons, and cloth and metal devices on the various uniforms, rank and other information concerning the wearer is made visible. The book shows all the more characteristic badges worn by serving-members of the Royal Navy. the Army, and the R.A.F., including the Reserve Forces, and by many of the Auxiliary organizations-both those of long-standing and those of recent existence.   In these days when so many people are wearing uniform such questions as: What is he? What is she in? What is that? are constantly recurring, and with the aid of this book many of them may be quickly answered. To those who are already familiar with the more important distinctions it will be of help in explaining the meaning of the many rank, proficiency, and specialist badges which are frequently to be seen but are not readily recognizable without a very extensive knowledge of the various organizations.   Within the compass of so small a book it has not been possible to include all the information which may conceivably be required. The selection of material has had to be confined to the more important services; and such omissions as there are cast no reflection upon those organizations whose badges have not been included solely on account of lack of space.   It is not to be supposed that with the frequent modifications being made that some inaccuracies have not occurred in compilation; but the greatest care has been exercised both in the collection of information, in draftsmanship, and in colouring, and it is hoped that all but minor errors have been eliminated.   Acknowledgement is made of the assistance given by Paymr. Sub-Lieut. E. B. R. Sargent, R.N.V.R., who supplied and checked the material in the R.A.F. section and the aircraft outlines.”   The 1942 edition is in good condition, the 1940 edition front and back cover has detached.    This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
