    About this item

For sale is a WW2 RAF Flight Handbook By Flight Publications Co Ltd which is a Wartime Publication.

The foreword states:   “Foreword BY AIR MARSHAL SIR WILLIAM LAWRIE WELSH, K.C.B., D.S.C., A.F.C., Until recently Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Flying Training Command ORTY years have not passed since the Wright brothers made their first successful flight in a heavier-than-air achine, yet twice during the present generation and a half has the world been plunged into miserable years of war. Aviation has thus been prevented from conferring upon mankind the full benefits it is undoubtedly some day destined to do. In wartime, however, necessity becomes the fertile mother of invention, and during the two periods of war great advances in aviation have taken place. Scientists again are engrossed in the pursuit and perfection of every device that will enable aircraft to fulfil its grim hostile role. The mass of science which serves aviation is indeed very complex, yet, unfortunately, in this country where thousands of voung men are looking forward to service in the Roval Air Force, there is "a queer kind of apologetic pride in knowing nothing about science ". Either as future members of air crews or the equally important ground crews, aircraft men will quite soon realise that a knowledge of underlving scientific principles is fundamental to real skill. Only when theory and practice are happily married can there be real efficiency To future members of air crews, flight mechanics, instrument repairers, etc., therefore, no less than to the general reader interested in flying, I commend this introductory book. It is a simple guide to aeronautics, unburdened with mathematics, and he who has the appetite to know and the capacity to learn is "scholar sufficient "   This book is filled with instructions, diagrams and photos to educate pilots & aircrew serving in the Royal Air Force.    This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
