About this item
An original pair of British Army ammunition boots clearly dated 1942 and in a size 10.
This pattern of boots, often referred to as 'Ammo boots', came into issue with the British Army in 1936 and saw issue throughout the Second World War and well into the 1950s. This particular pair was made in 1942 as is confirmed by the stamp to the insole. They feature a black pebbled leather exterior and separate stitched toe cap. The soles are the original leather examples which feature metal toe plates which are attached to the boots by the correct slotted head type screws. A typical mid-war arrangement of flat type studs have been fitted to the sole and look to be the original wartime examples. The heels are also the originals and are fitted with metal 'horse shoes', which are again the correct pattern. The soles are also marked with the size of 10S and there is a War Department acceptance to the side of the boots as illustrated in picture 6.
Inside the boots the original maker's markings are present to the insole. They feature the maker's name of 'Thompson Bros Ltd' along with the 1942 date and the size of 10S.
The boots are in very good condition and display well. They show signs of service use and appear to be very sound overall. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-owned pair of boots which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A good pair of boots with a hard to find early date and in a large size.
