An original World War One British War Medal, correctly named as follows;
9-5097 PTE. R. SWEENEY. DURH. L. I.
Richard Sweeney was entitled to a pair. He is recorded as having been killed in action on 16 September 1916 and is buried in Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont. This is a communal cemetery and Richard's body is recorded as having been exhumed and reburied. There does not seem to be a record as to which cemetery he was previously buried at, but it will have been somewhere around Courcelette.
