An interest first day of the Somme casualty survivor awarded to Sergeant Charles Henry Pratt served with the 6th Royal Berkshire Regiment. British War Medal (15381 SJT. C.H.PRATT. R. BERKS. R.) He saw action on the first day of the Somme and was wounded in action at Casino Point. This was an action that saw senior mining officers hesitating when detonating a 5,000lb mine beneath the salient. As a result some elements of the 6th Royal Berkshire Regiment were injured from the fallout of falling debris. Records show that Sgt Charles H. Pratt that on the 12th March 1918 he was serving with the Royal Flying Corps then followed by the new Royal Air Force as indicated on his service record.(with copy medal rolls, service record, overview Battle of the Somme)
