A fine and untouched America Revolutionary War period English Officers Hanger.
Given the blade length quite possibly Naval in origin, but devoid of any markings, etching or makers details.
Ovoid pommel retaining its beautiful original shagreen grip and wire binding. Single knuckle bow. with looped outer bar guard and quillion.
The blade is 23 inches with a single fuller running the length of the blade. Generally clean with minor staining and very light pitting towards the back edge. Well protected by its scabbard.
It has the incredible bonus of retaining its original scabbard. It is complete with iron top and bottom mounts, although the top mount has been put on upside down at some point in its life. It has an outer leather sleeve over the main scabbard, quite possibly a foul weather cover, which again may indicate naval use.
