Georgian British Foot Artillery Sword
A scarce example of this rarely seen Artilleryman's sidearm from the Napoleonic wars.
Brass stirrup guard with twin langets and quilion. Leather bound grip in good condition but with minor loss as one might expect. A small amount of movement between blade and hilt, likely corrected by adapting the decayed blade washer.
Marked to the spine "JOSH H REDDELL & CO" and with crowned "2" inspection mark to the right hand side of the unfullered 25.75 inch blade. The blade is sharpend on both sides towards the blades point. Some dark staining and patinia, but generally very good.
Joseph Hadley Reddell (1775-1847) sword cutler and contractor to the Board of Ordnance operated using this marking fron 1807 until 1819 (declared bankrupt 1820)
