Three Original WW1 Cartoons by Chas Ingle for the North Sea Times

Three original pen and ink drawings by Charles Ingle a well documented cartoonist during the Great War.

Very much of the "Heath Robinson" style one in particular shows a force of underwater troops attacking the harbour at Kiel with divers helmets with an imaginative attempt at a backpack aqualung.

These are marked "War Cartoon" number five, six and twelve produced for the "North Sea Times" with the titles "Doubling" 29.2cm x 23cm showing sailors exercising on deck, "Submarine Attack" 29.2cm x 23cm with a whale mistaken for the sub and being shot at from all angles the other is as mentioned "A Suggestion For Attacking Keil" 18.5cm x 15.5cm with a remarkable underwater boring machine.

The detail on the deck equipment is perfect explained by the sub attack cartoon which is marked on the back in pencil Chas Ingle HMS Royal Oak C/O GPO London so I assume he was in the service at the time.

Fair overall condition with some age staining and foxing.
