    About this item

For sale is a WW2 The British Army its History, Customs, Traditions and Uniforms 1937 Publication.

This publication can act as an excellent reference guide for badges, uniforms, medal ribbons of the British army for ww1, interwar and early ww2.   “THE BRITISH ARMY IT'S HISTORY, CUSTOMS, TRADITIONS and UNIFORMS PArMR. LIEUT.-CDR. E. C. TALBOT-BOOTH, R.N.R. All the black and white and colour drawings are by the author LONDON SAMPSON LOW, MARSTON & CO., LID.”   An extract from this book states the nature of this book:    “INTRODUCTION. The writing and compiling of this little book has been in all ways a labour of love, and I have done it for two reasons. First, as a small tribute to the Service, and second, in the hope that it may induce some to take an interest in His Majesty's land forces. I have not attempted to write a history of the British Army because that would involve writing a history of the British Empire and I am not competent to do so. The actual service history has been treated very sketchily, practically confining itself to a recital of the honours borne upon the Colours, because it has been my endeavour rather to bring forward all those interesting customs, traditions and privileges which should be known by a very much wider circle than at present. The pageantry and the splendour of the full dress uniforms has been emphasized as against the mere cataloguing of a list of battles because it should be unnecessary to stress the fact that wherever the British Army has fought, it has done its duty. This has been no holding up of the pomp and glory of ceremony in an attempt to gloss over the horror and bestiality of conflict but rather because without the glorious heritage of tradition and custom which is the Army's and our own, it has not been possible, nor will it be possible in the future, to hold on to all that is noblest and fine in our civilization. More and more as mechanization and science obtrudes on the past, is it necessary to soak ourselves with the story of the past in order that we may keep sane and cherish a healthy outlook transcending purely material things.”   This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
