    About this item

An original RAF G Type Flying Helmet dated 1961 and in a size No.2 complete with an original A13/2 Oxygen Mask.

This pattern of flying helmet came into use with the RAF in the 1950s replacing the short-lived but very similar F Type Helmet. It was designed to be worn underneath the 'Bone Dome' helmet or on its own and features pop studs to attach the oxygen mask too which would have been the H Type when first introduced.

The original label is still present inside the helmet with the RAF Stores 22c/1730, the size of 2 and the War Department broad arrow marking. There is also a contract number which ends in /61 which denotes 1961 as the year or manufacture.

The helmet comes complete with a set of ear donuts which were removable on this pattern being attached with pop studs. As well as this it retains all of its original avionics including an additional cable which converts the nato adapter to the earlier style bell plug.

The condition of the helmet is good but it has clearly been issued and seen use. It does by no means show signs of excessive wear but has signs of age and use.

The A13/a mask certainly appears to be original to the helmet and displays well with some signs of age etc. Please study the pictures before purchasing.

Overall a nice original set which was clearly used together in the 1960s.
