    MBE, Britannia 1st type (Military) Hallmarked, 1914 Star with “5th Aug 22nd Nov. 1914” Mons Clasp. (20406 SPR. G.GILLAM. R.E.), BWM & VM with MID Oak Leaf (20406 S.SJT. G.GILLAM. R.E.)Defence Medal 1939-45, War Medal 1939-45, Coronation Medal 1937 (Geo VI), Army L.S.& G.C. (1852636. W.O. CL.1. G.GILLAM. R.A.O.C.) An outstanding group covering both wars, awarded to Warrant Officer 1st Class George Gilliam serving with both Royal Engineers and later Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Warrant Officer George Gillam joined the Royal Engineers and landed in the French theatre of operations on the 7th November 1914. Gillam was later promoted to Staff Sergeant (Acting Quarter Master Sergeant). Recorded in the London Gazette 10th July 1919 he was mentioned in dispatches. On the 3rd June 1935 Gillam now promoted to Warrant Officer 1st Class in the London Gazette was recorded as being attached to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. Whilst serving with them his position was noted s Chief Clerk to Assistant Director of Ordnance Services, Western Command. In his capacity he was awarded a MBE, a Member of the British Empire “Military Division” for his services. Notes indicate he was commissioned in 1936. (with copy Medal Index Card, medal rolls, MBE & MID London Gazette and Coronation Roll)
