Distinguished Conduct Medal (GeoV) (45259 Cpl.G.S.Buckingham. 84/FD:Coy RE), 1914-15 Star (45259 Spr: G.S.Buckingham. RE.), British War Medal (45259 Cpl. G.S.Buckingham. RE.), Victory Medal (45259 Cpl. G.S.Buckingham. RE.) An interesting Great War Gallantry, Killed in Action group of four awarded to Cpl. Gordon Stewart Buckingham. London Gazette 3rd June 1918 citation reads, "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in handling men and getting work done under fire on many occasions. During enemy attacks he showed exceptional coolness, and set a fine example to other men of his section". Gordon Stewart Buckingham was born in Clifton, Somerset; son of Thomas and Kate Buckingham of 25 Royal York Crescent in Clifton. He enlisted in Bristol where he joined the 84th Field Company Royal Engineers. He entered the French Theatre of Operations on the 25th July 1915. Sapper/ Corporal Gordon Stewart Buckingham of the Distinguished Conduct Medal but was later killed in action on 22nd May 1918 at the age of 21 years of age.
