WW1 British Death Penny KIA Final Day At Battle Of Arras 16 June 1917

For sale is a Rare WW1 British Death Penny To 201430 Corporal Alfred Charles Page Who served with the 2nd/1st Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) Who was Killed in Action on the Final Day At The Battle Of Arras on the 16th June 1917 aged 44 years.

  Alfred Charles Page, was the son of Alfred Henry Page, of 9 Hawley St, Camden Town, London and Agnes Page (Stepmother) husband of Alice Maude page, of 44 mill road, Mile End Colchester.    Alfred Charles Page Joined the army in 1914 and served with the 2nd/1st Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers), he enlisted as a private and worked his way up to Sergeant over the course of the war. He served in the South Africa campaign and on the western front, where he was entitled to a ww1 war and ww1 victory medal.    Alfred Charles Page can be found on the Arras memorial Bay 9. Overall the death penny is in good condition, there is a knock/ dent to the left hand side which can be seen in the photos.    9 April -16 June 1917: the Arras offensive. Once again the British are called upon to launch an attack in support to a larger French offensive: the battles of the Chemin des Dames and the hills of Champagne. The opening Battle of Vimy and the First Battle of the Scarpe are very encouraging, but once again the offensive – often known as the Battle of Arras – bogs down into an attritional slog.
