About this item
An original 1946 Dated United States Army Raincoat in a size short large.
This short-lived pattern of raincoat was introduced just after the end of the Second World War and was in turn replaced again in 1950 making it an uncommon pattern to find today. Made from Olive Drab coloured sateen, the coat features a double breasted front, buttoning slash pockets and tabs to each wrist which can be fastened tight around the wrist.
The coat is fully lined meaning it has a double layer throughout. Inside one of the pockets the original label is still present and is still legible. It states the garment as 'Overcoat, Field, O D. 7 with Removable Liner' and the size as 'short large'. It was made by 'Sigmund Eisner Co' on the 28th of June 1946 and has the pattern date of 6/6/46 making this an early example.
The coat is designed for a broad smaller person and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 16 1/2"
Outside arm - 24 1/4"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"
Length - 44"
The coat is in good condition with signs of wear and use. There are some marks and staining as well as some shadowing where badges have been removed from the sleeves which are evident in the pictures. The coat is still very wearable but does have small small flaws so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
All in all a good example of this unusual pattern of US Army raincoat. It would look great worn today or could make a good addition to a collection.
