    For sale is a WW1 War Medal To WW1 War Medal To Corporal D J O’Connell 40th Canadian Infantry & Research. 

      This war medal is engraved on the rim “414484 Cpl D J O’Connell 40-can inf”.   Dennis Joseph O’Connell was born on the 21st of July 1876 in Cork, Ireland. Dennis married Annie O’Connell and they lived at Water Street, Dartmouth. His trade on enlistment was an iron worker. He had previous service history of the 40th & 6th Battalion Canadian expeditionary force imperial forces. He also had four boys and two girls with Annie.    Dennis enlisted with the Canadian expeditionary force on august 5th 1915 at Aldershot. Dennis went through the ranks starting at private, to Corporal to Lance Corporal and then to sergeant.    15th September 1916 Dennis sailed for Canada via SS Misanabie.    On June 17th 1916 whilst serving with the 40th Infantry Canadian expeditionary force, Dennis went blind in his left eye not due to military service.    Accompanying this medal is 13 scans of their service records.
