1st Pattern U Boat 7x50 Binoculars by Zeiss
A very rare pair of 1st pattern U Boat 7x50 Zeiss binoculars originally produced without the rubber armour and with flip up eyecups. Virtually all of these Binoculars were returned to Zeiss and upgraded with a new paint finish and rubber armour, the most obvious indication of their original form being the smaller ocular lenses which we have here, other than that they have been upgraded to the later specification by Zeiss.
Optically the glasses are excellent. There is no damage to the prisms, objective or ocular lenses and the vision is clear and in collumation. There would be absolutely no need to have them serviced.
The neck strap is original and all the rubber is without splits or crazing. As part of the original upgrade the grey paint was overpainted in the sea green we are familiar with but this has then been returned to a colour much more like the original factory finish, I believe during the war but in truth impossible to tell.
The right prism plate is marked 7x50 210288 blc but I have not attempted to photograph this as this is usually the reason the rubber armour becomes split.
An excellent and rare pair of Zeiss U Boat Binoculars
