About this item
Awarded to Orderly George Fairley of Her Majesties Royal Navy. China Medal 1857-60 Clasp Taku Forte 1860 (GEO FAIRLEY. HMS. “COROMANDEL”.). Born in Blackburn in Lancashire. On the 29th July 1841 volunteered to join Her Majesties Royal Navy this followed by service with HMS Ajax on the 8th March 1836. Records show he volunteered for 10 years in the navy from 29th July 1839 but must of stayed on with continued service serving through to 19th October 1869. He is shown as awarded China Medal whilst serving on HMS Chesapeake as indicated on the medal roll. Whilst serving on HMS Chesapeake he must of done some time on board HMS Coromandel whilst serving in the China campaign. Medal has had a claw repair on reverse.
