About The 21st Pioneers Regiment of Madras Native Infantry: The 81st Pioneers were an infantry regiment of the British Indian Army. They could trace their origins to 1786, when they were raised as the 28th Madras Battalion. Until 1903 the 21st were known as the 21st, it’s not until 1903 that they became the 81st.
