For sale is a WW2 British Army pamphlet which is titled; 

  “PRACTICAL Map-Reading A Complete Course of 9 Lessons By H. R. WILCOCK Reconnaissance Corps. ROBERT DINWIDDIE & Co., DUMFRIES”   This was published in November 1942.   The foreword states:   “GOOD Map-reading is of the first importance to any army.. This is particularly the case to-day, when mechanised units, which are controlled largely by Map and Wireless, form so great a part of the British Army. In spite of its obvious import- ance, however, Map-reading is not everywhere taught so effectively and thoroughly as other branches of military science. seek. teach. The reason for this is not far to Map-reading is not an easy subject to It is a somewhat indefinite subject; a sequence in instruction is not readily apparent; a practical application of principles does not quickly suggest itself; and the standard works on the subject are often too full of the details of its advanced stages to encourage their use in instruction. This book has been written as an attempt to remedy this state of affairs to some degree. Its object is to provide straightforward "lecture notes" on a first course in simple Map-reading for those whose task it is to instruct recruits. It has actually been in use, with results that suggested a wider distribution, and it is the hope of the Author that it will be of some assistance to others who are faced with the task of teaching Map-reading in an efficient and interesting way to those to whom it may one day be a matter of life and death. This is complete with information, instructions, Etc, to help the doctors, nurses and practitioners learn wartime formulary.
