Legion Freies Indien / Indisches Infanterie Regiment 950 sleeve Insignia, 2nd type printed on linen, in very good unissued condition with slight storage marks and measuring 85 x 63 mm.
The Legion Freies Indien / Indisches Infanterie Regiment 950 was organized as a standard German army infantry regiment, consisiting of three battalions, each of four companies. They were issued Standard German Army/Heer tropical uniforms, equipment and weapons.
A movement for Indian independence lead by Subhas Chandra Bose with the assistance of Nazi Germany and Japan, raised the Provisional Government of Azad Hind (Free India) which declared war on Great Britain and the United States on 24 October 1943. A number of troops were raised, largely from Indian POW's.
