About this item
An absolutely stunning original 1940s men's sea green coloured menn's herringbone striped wool overcoat which was made by 'The Ideal' as part of the CC41 utility scheme which was introduced during 1941. The aim of the scheme was to provide good quality clothing at an affordable price to people from all walks of lives and every class.
This coat is particularly special as it is not only made from a bold coloured material but also features a peak lapel and matching waist belt. Overcoats were commonplace during this period but were often made in more drab colours such as charcoal or black which makes this example really stand out. The dea green coloured herringbone stripe wool is thick and designed for warmth and is set off by contrasting dark coloured buttons. The coat retains its original matching waist belt which features a leather covered buckle. Flapped pockets are located to each hip and there are three buttons fitted to the end of each cuff.
The interior features a 3/4 lining which is made from a silver-grey coloured rayon material. There is a hanging loop at the neck and s single interior pocket. The hanging loop features the brand name 'The Ideal' which was a cooperative brand. Below this is a large label which reads 'Guaranteed Scotch Tweed All Pure Wool' and features typical period graphics. There is also a CC41 utility label fitting to the lining which confirms this is a genuine utility made garment.
The coat will suit around a 36" chest and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length at rear - 45"
The coat is in fantastic condition with no real signs of wear and age. It displays extremely well with no floors or damage and is totally wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing however as this is a vintage, pre-owned item.
