    About this item

An original pair of RAF MK VIII goggles in excellent condition complete the Air Ministry marking and their original issue cardboard box.

The MK VIII goggles are arguably the most iconic of all RAF goggles, coming into service during 1943 and staying in use with the RAF until the 1960s.

The goggles are in fantastic, unworn condition which would be very hard to better. The brass frames retain all of their original original blue paint finish, The leather front of the face cushions are excellent as is the chamois reverse. All the chrome plated parts are very good save for the strap adjuster which shows limited signs of corrosion. The strap itself is in excellent condition retaining its original factory colour and all of its elasticity. Both leather pullers on the strap adjuster are also present.

To the reverse of the goggles there is a red stamp to the chamois backing of the face cushions. The War Department broad arrow marking is present as is the designation 'Mark 8'. Below this is the 22c stores code.

The goggles come complete with their original box which is the specific issue type with 'Goggles MK. VIII' stamped to the top as well as the stores code 22c/920. The side of the box is also marked with the War Department broad arrow marking and the words 'Mark VIII'.

When the box is opened the goggles are found still wrapped in their original packing (picture 9). Inside the box is a set of tinted lenses which can be changed for the clear lenses fitted to the goggles currently. As well as this is a plastic case which houses the anti-dimming cloth. It features writing to the top which bears the RAF stores code of 22c/1877 and the title 'Outfit, Anti-mist, For goggles MK. 8.'. Inside this is the anti dimming cloth which is the only part of the set which carries a date which is March 1944.

All in all a nice pair of original goggles complete with their original box and accessories. These would make an excellent addition to any RAF or USAAF collection without a doubt!
