GROUP OF FIVE. Private V. Lewis. 2/Bn.Kings Shropshire Light Infantry.

A rather interesting group of five awarded to Private Vincent Lewis who served under the reign of three royal monarchs, seeing action in the Boer War and the First World War. Queen South Africa, Clasps Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal (5942 PTE. V. LEWIS. 2: SHROPS:  LT INFT), Kings South Africa, Clasps South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902. (5942 PTE. J. LEWIS. SHROPS: L.I.), 1914-15 Star (5942 PTE. V. LEWIS. SHROPS: L.I.), British War Medal & Victory Medal  (5942 PTE. V. LEWIS. K.S.L.I.). Private Vincent Lewis served with the 2nd Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry in which he was awarded the Queens South Africa Medal, awarded clasps Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein and Transvaal, Clasps confirmed on medal roll. As can be seen  though clasp Transvaal not ticked on roll this though could be an oversight on the part of the depot clerks. Following this he was awarded the Kings South Africa medal with clasps South Africa 1901 and 1902 both clasps confirmed on roll. He served right through the Boer War Campaign and then on the outbreak of World War One his regiment now the 2nd Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry later Kings Shropshire Light Infantry was sent to France. He entered the French Theatre of Operation on the 9th November 1915 awarded 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, all awards confirmed on medal rolls.
