About this item
An original World War One era medal grouping, comprising the 1914/15 Star and Victory Medal, along with a Meritorious Service Medal, with good length of original ribbon. Pte Underwood's BWM is sadly missing.
Named as follows;
1914/15 Star - 12266. BMBR. R. UNDERWOOD. R.G.A.
Victory - 12266. BMBR. R. UNDERWOOD. R.A.
MSM - 12266 A. SJT. R. UNDERWOOD. 105/SGE: BY: R.G.A.
Richard Underwood's entitlement to the MSM is confirmed on the index cards that are available free of charge at the National Archives. The states it was awarded for 'devotion' whilst serving in France and was gazetted on 1 January 1918. The Gazette entry states he was born in Kildare.
His entitlement to the 15 trio is confirmed on the MIC, having arrived in France on 15 September 1915.
