1991 Bates Hatters RAF Pilot's Cap with History

1991 Bates Hatters RAF Pilot's Cap with History

    Item details

A fantastic aged RAF Officer's cap. Purchased directly from the RAF officer, who is now retired. He said many hours went into "shaping it into those Spitfire pilot hats." Of course from Bates of Jermyn St - best of the best of RAF hatters. The select RAF hatter of choice of many, including the famed Air Marshall Johnnie Johnson, who got his faithful air rank from no other than Bates!

The original owner joined the RAF in the 1980s and purchased this as his "best hat" in 1991. He qualified for his pilot wings and flew/instructed on Jet Provosts and Canberras, even doing an exchange with the RAAF. He flew Canberras in Australia as well. He retired with the rank of Squadron Leader in 2000.

The old faithful has signs of repair (sweatband was sewn back on again), lining torn but in good condition apart from that. Size is a UK 7 1/8 (58cm).
