About this item
An original 1944 Dated Women's National Fire Service Ski Cap in good condition.
This pattern of cap was worn by women serving with the National Fire Service throughout the Second World War. It is made in a ski cap style which was a popular design for women's headwear during WW2. The cap is made from a navy blue twill and features red piping around the crown and to the edges of the fold-down skirt which fasten with tapes at the front of the cap. The front of the cap is fitted with an original King's crown NFS cap badge.
Inside the cap the original markings are present and are bright and legible. The maker's name of 'J. Collett ltd' is present as is the size of 6 7/8, the 1944 date and the War Department broad arrow. There is also a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'Z' which denotes 1945 as the year of issue.
The cap is in excellent condition and displays very well. There are only limited signs of age and no real signs of use. Overall it is a very good example which would be hard to better.
A fine original wartime women's cap from the Home Front which would make a great addition to any collection.
