About this item
An original Royal Army Pay Corps officers coloured field service cap dating from the 1940s and in good condition.
This cap is a private purchase example and is therefore impossible to date exactly. The construction is typical of those made during the 1930s and 1940s as is the style of label found to the interior. The cap itself is made from a navy blue - black coloured wool serge and features gold wire piping to the edge of the crown and skirt. The cap is fitted with King's crown gilt buttons and there is clear evidence of where a cap badge was previously fitted.
The interior of the cap is lined in a grey coloured rayon material and has a velvet headband - both typical period features. The original size label is still present to the interior which states the size as 7 1/4.
The cap is in good condition with no real signs of wear. There are a couple of small moth nips and other limited signs of age, but overall it displays well.
A nice WW2 period cap.
