About this item
Boer War Hants Isle of Wight Artillery Commanding Officer's Wolseley Pattern Foreign Service Helmet.
A regimentally important example worn by Major H.G. Watson during his service in the Boer War. The khaki helmet retains seven fold pagri, to the left side original pagri badge of a cloth triangle blue & red, mounted with a brass flaming grenade and title "H.I.W.A". The interior with leather sweatband, this with gold tooled tailors details. to the cork inner an ink name of "H.G. WATSON HANTS & I.WIGHT ART R.G.A.". The khaki cloth remains clean and good, but PLEASE NOTE the cork crown is damaged and collapsed. This is the only confirmed Boer War helmet I have seen which is of the newly introduced Wolseley Pattern. Major H.G. Watson is confirmed as being awarded the QSA with three clasps.
