About this item
An original 1940 Dated British Steel Helmet still in its original blue / grey paint.
This helmet is a MKII Number 2C which is evident by the three holes drilled in the side of the shell denoting it as a Helmet not to be used by frontline troops. They did however see use with Home Guard, RAF and predominantly the Civil Defence.
The shell itself is in good shape and still retains a large amount of its original paint finish. It has two letters painted on the front which are clearly period applied although I have not yet discovered what it denotes. The underside of the rim is stamped with a clear 1940 date as well as the manufacturer's initials. The chin strap is also present and appears to be original to the helmet.
There is also an original liner fitted inside the helmet which is maker marked 'B.M.B' which stands for British Motor Bodies - a prolific manufacturer of steel helmets during the Second World War. The 1940 date is also present as is the size of 7. The liner is secured to the helmet with the early pattern large brass bolt and nut.
Overall this is an interesting original helmet with a clear early date which displays well. It would make a good addition to a Home Front collection.
