About this item
WW1 1918 issue Royal Flying Corps RFC Officer’s “Floppy” Trench Cap.
A very good and rare example of the “Floppy” trench cap tailored with yellow cotton lining and bearing a WD 1918 issue date. This example fitted with a bronze OSD RFC Officer’s cap badge, with blades. Looking at the cap evidence of only one set of holes for the badge. Complete with General service buttons and correct thin brown leather chinstrap. Very minor wear near VGC.
Newley commissioned Officer’s from the ranks, were given the choice of a uniform cash allowance, which did not cover the full cost of the uniform, or could receive their uniform on issue. This cap is typical of the issue pattern and the 1918 stamp to the lining confirms this.
