    About this item

An original British Military Khaki Drill Bush Jacket dating from the 1940s and in good condition.

This jacket is typical of those worn by men serving with the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force in the 1940s and 1950s. It is devoid of any labels or markings which would suggest that this is a private purchase example, as is very common to find. Many officers bought their own uniform and equipment with Khaki Drill uniforms being no exception. The construction of this example would suggest that it is theatre made, as is common to find with original KD items.

The jacket features long sleeves, an open collar and pleated patch pockets with scalloped to the chest. Bellows pockets can be found to the rear portion of the jacket and the rear features a vent. The jacket retains its original waist belt which is fitted with a two pronged brass buckle. Straps are located to the shoulder to which epaulettes can be fixed. The tunic is fitted with butterscotch coloured revolving shank buttons which are removable for laundering purposes. These could be changed for regimental examples if so desired.

The style of this tunic, particularly the scalloped pockets, would make this ideal for use as an RAF Officers tunic. It could also be used for British Army by simply changing the buttons and adding some shoulder boards.

The jacket is a medium size which will suit around a 42" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 23"
    Inside arm - 18 1/2"
    Outside arm - 26 1/2"
    Length - 32"

The jacket is in good condition and is still very wearable. There are some signs of wear and age but overall it displays well. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original period KD jacket which would suit a re-enactor or collector well.
