    About this item

An original 1944 dated Royal Air Force Officers Service Dress Tunic named to 'G. Newton'.

This original tunic is of the standard cut used throughout the Second World War for RAF Officers. It features a full set of brass Kings crown RAF buttons, retains its original waist belt and brass buckle and bears Flying Officer rank to the sleeve which is undoubtedly original to the jacket.

Inside the jacket has a tailors label which states the maker as 'Alderton & Sons Ltd' of Southampton Street in London and the original owner as 'G. Newton'. The date is also present to the label and reads 21st of August 1944, confirming that this is an authentic wartime manufactured example.

The tunic is a smaller size which will suit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat the tunic measures -

    Chest - 19"
    Waist - 15 1/2"
    Inside arm - 19"
    Outside arm - 25 1/2"
    Shoulders - 17"
    Length - 30"

The tunic is in below average condition with various areas of damage as shown in the pictures. There is staining around the collar, some moth nips, a tear to one armpit as well as some rust marks and holes to the interior. This damage has been taken into account with the price but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

Whilst far from perfect, this is an original wartime example with a clear date and name which offers the potential of further research.
