About this item
An original Swedish Army M1909 Parka Overcoat dated 1944 and in fantastic condition.
These coats have been come an iconic item today and have featured in numerous films and other places in popular culture. They are called 'Livpäls' by the Swedes which means a coat for life - and it certainly looks like it would last that long!
The outer of the coat is made from a mouse grey coloured cotton canvas which is a hard wearing, duarble fabric. Patch pockets are fitted to the lower portion of the front of the coat and feature three button flaps which are typical of Swedish military items of this period. The front of the coat fastens with buttons and the cuffs feature a buttoning tab. Unser each arm is a vent as detailed in the pictures. The interior of the coat features a thick pile sheepskin lining which will certainly keep you warm! A metal hook and eye is present to the collar as is a tab which allows the collar to fastened around the neck for extra warmth.
There are various stamps to the interior including one of the manufacturers name which reads 'Orebro Sport & Bilekipering'. There are more stamps including what appears to be a 1944 date stamp although it is not completely clear. The final stamp is a simple '2' which denotes the size.
These coats are a very large item, designed to be worn over the top of an outfit. Size 2 roughly translates to a medium and when laid flat the coat measures -
Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 27"
Shoulders - 20"
Length - 41 1/2"
When checking the measurements above it is important to take into account that the lining lining of the coat is very thick.
The coat is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. It doesn't appear to have been worn previously but may have small issues commensurate with age.
A fantastic example of this iconic coat!
