    About this item

An original US Army Officer's short A class Tunic Dated 1945 and named to Lieutenant W. Schaplow.

This tunic may have started life as a standard four pocket US Army Officers Class A tunic that has been re-tailored into a short 'Ike jacket' style, as was popular during the war, particularly with members of the USAAF. However due to its late date it may have been made in this style as it had become such a popular style. The jacket features scalloped pocket flaps with concealed buttons, a fly front with concealed buttons and an action-back design to the rear.

The tunic is fitted with USAAF Officers insignia to the lapels, a plethora of medals to the breast and an Eighth Army Air Force patch to the left sleeve. The lower portion of the left sleeve features a nice bullion overseas service badge which denotes 4 years.

The tunic still retains its original label and was made by 'Koritz and Brown Tailors' of Minneapolis. A second label can be found inside the interior pocket which states the original owner as Lt W. Schaplow and the date of 1/5 1945.

The tunic is a smaller size which will fit around a 38" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 21 3/4"
    Waist - 16 3/4"
    Inside arm - 17"
    Outside arm - 25"
    Shoulders - 18 3/4"
    length - 21 1/2"

The tunic is in reasonable condition for its age and overall displays well. There are small nicks to the arms and some to the body as can be seen in the pictures. The tunic is far from perfect but this has been reflected in the price.
