Victorian Black Watch Officers Skean Dubh.
The hardwood grip with the St Andrew, with faded gilt brass collar mount.
This interesting example has had a silver extention added to the grip, to make it easier for a larger hand to grip it, and use it as a utility knife. This is further evidenced by the scalloped blade, which has been service sharpened. Sharpening marks, and old staining, with small loss to the tip.
The blade measuring just over 3.5 inches, 8.75 inches overall, in scabbard.
This example retailed by W. Anderson&Sons, Ltd, Military Outfitters, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and bearing their tablet to the rear of the brass top mount of the leather scabbard. Above this is a stamped fleur de lys marking, likely that of the manufacturer.
Some slight movement between the blade and hilt.
An attractive and unique skean dubh, which will improve with some gentle care and attention.
