    About this item

A lovely original men's night shirt made by 'Boardmans' in the 1920s.

Night shirts such as this were extremely popular in the days before central heating. Cut in an oversized manner, this shirt is much longer than day shirts and is designed to hang below the wearers knee. It is made from a soft, fine brushed cotton and features a rounded collar and a half placket front which fastens with cloth covered brass buttons which are typical of the period. The edge of the material has a blue selvedge as can be seen in picture 8 which is a nice feature.

Inside the neck the original label is still present and is typical of those found in garments from the first two decades of the 20th Century. It is simple in design bearing the maker's name and the words 'Hosiery Specialists' against a blue background. Below this is a size label which reads 'OS'.

The shirt is not designed for any specific build but is to be worn in a loose, flowing manner. When laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 29"
    Inside arm - 19 1/2"
    Outside arm - 21 1/4"
    Length at front - 42"
    Length at back - 48"
    Shoulders - 21 1/2"

The shirt is in good condition considering its age and looks to still be very wearable. It has some nice period darn repairs and various signs of wear and age. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item.

A nice early piece of British vintage with a great label and some nice details.
