    About this item

A very interesting British men's jacket dating from around the 1940s and featuring pleated patch pockets and a belted back.

The origins of this jacket are not completely clear. There are no labels but the materials used are typical of the period as are some of the features. The jacket has most likely been through a costume house at some stage and the replaced inside pocket may be testament to this. None-the-less it is undoubtedly a period piece with desirable attributes.

The jacket is made from a grey coloured tweed like wool material and features an overcheck in blue and brown which is typical of the period. It features twin patch pockets at the breast, both with inverted pleats to the centre, and larger patch pockets to the skirt which are made in the same style. The front fastens with three buttons and features a pronounced notched lapel which is again a common cut for the era. The rear of the jacket features a half belt and a single vent to the skirt.

The interior of the jacket features a full rayon lining as is usually found on British made jackets from this period. There is a single inside pocket and a hanging loop to the neck.

The jacket will suit someone of around a 38" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

    Chest - 21 1/2"
    Inside arm - 17 1/2"
    Outside arm - 24"
    Shoulders - 18 1/2"
    Length - 31 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition overall and is still very wearable. There are some flaws to the lining as detailed in the pictures as well as a hole to the cuff. There is also another small area of damage to the rear above the half belt. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage item with some small issues commensurate with age.

A nice jacket with some rare features!
