The Eccles Protector Lamp & Lighting Co Ltd was a British company that produced miners' safety lamps. These lamps were used by miners to detect potentially explosive gases in the mines and to prevent fires and explosions.
The Eccles Protector Lamp & Lighting Co Ltd was founded in 1873 by William Edward Teale, who was a chemist and inventor. Teale developed a new type of safety lamp that used a glass cylinder to surround the flame and prevent it from igniting any explosive gases that might be present in the mine.
