    At the outbreak of World War One 2644 Worker Winifred Jessie Thexton Joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAA) later Queens Army Auxiliary Corps (QMAAC) from 1918. British War Medal & Victory Medal (2644 WKR. W.J. THEXTON. Q.M.A.A.C.). Medal roll records confirm period of service was between the 3rd September 1917 until 28th October 1919. To which she saw service overseas most likely serving in France where to  QMAAC were stationed. (with copy Medal Roll and Q.M.A.A.C. Overview)
