    About this item

A particularly fine example of a mid to late war “Irvin Jacket” worn by (Lt. ?) George Craig who was either the observer or gunner on Swordfish aircraft, and obtained directly from his family. The Jacket is a good large size ideal for a 38-40” chest.

Overall condition is very good. The Jacket has been carefully stored and sympathetically treated with a leather dressing which has kept it soft. All zips are original to the Jacket and are in perfect working condition. The main zip is closed with a Lightning marked pull with leather tab, each sleeve with A.M. marked pulls, one missing it’s tab. Of note is the missing buckle section of the waistbelt.

There are no tears or patches and the only repair appears to be on the left breast seam where a small separation from the seam has been skilfully resewn.

Inside, the deep fur is excellent, clean and without loss. Outside there is minimal wear to the inside edge of each cuff corresponding to that on the lower edge of the jacket typical of service use.

The collar is excellent with the strap and closure rings in place, the hanging chain present but detached at one side. By this stage of the war elastic strap were not fitted.

A  lovely jacket with researchable history and of course ideal for both FAA and RAF displays. The period black and white image is for interest only and is not included
