    About this item

An original USAAF L-1 Flight suit by ’S. J. Campbell Company’ and in reasonable condition for its age.

This pattern of flying suit was standardised in November 1944 and was essentially an updated version of the earlier AN-S-31 flight suit. Made from the same green gaberdine material, this suit features angled brass ‘Conmar’ zippers to the chest as well as two more to the thigh and lower legs.

The original label is present inside the suit and reads ‘Suit, Flying, Light gaberdine, Type L-1’ and the see is stated as ‘Medium Regular’. The makers name ’S. J. Campbell Company’ is also present.

The suit is in good condition for its age but has numerous signs of wear etc. All the original ‘Conmar’ marked zips work as they should and generally speaking the suit seems to be solid. There is the odd missing button and some damage including a tear to the front near the left breast pocket as well as wear under the arms, to the legs and seat as well as some others. Some of these have been repaired with patches etc and are only noticeable on close inspection. These issues have been taken into account when pricing the overall. Please study the pictures as they form part of the description.

All in all not a bad example of this less commonly found pattern of flying suit. It has a plethora of great details and displays well.
