Original 1950s Overalls by 'Harpoon'

An original pair of overalls made in the 1950s by 'Harpoon'.

These overalls are typical of those made and sold in Great Britain in the 1950s. Made from a blue coloured cotton drill, sometimes referred to as 'Bluette' they feature slash pockets to the hips, a patch pocket to the chest and a spanner pocket to the right leg. The upper portion of the front fastens with butterscotch coloured revolving shank buttons which are removable whilst the fly fastens with black plastic buttons. The rear of the suit features another patch pocket and a cinch belt and buckle to the waist. 

Inside the overall are two labels. The first is the manufacturers label which is located below the collar seam and bears the maker's name of 'Harpoon Regd brand'. It also states the size as 38 and the material as being 100% cotton. The second label has instructions pertaining to washing and care.

The overalls were originally designed to fit someone of a 38" chest and when laid flat measure -

Waist - 20"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Rise (seat to collar at front) 34"
Inside leg - 30"
Complete length - 59 1/2"
Shoulders - 18"

The overalls are in good condition considering they are a vintage work piece. There are various signs of wear and use which are to be expected of such an item. Please study the pictures provided for a clear idea of condition. 

Altogether a nice original set of post-war overalls with some classic period details.
