About this item
A rare original Royal Air Force MK1 Flying Suit in a size 6 which is in good condition.
This is a scarce short-lived pattern of suit which replaced the 1951 Pattern Flying Suit. It is officially designated 'Suit, Flying, Lightweight, Mk 1' and it shares a number of details with the 1951 pattern flying suit as well as the early 'Beadon' lightweight flying suit. It is made from a grey coloured ventiel cotton and it features a metal zipper to the front which features a chrome plated puller which bears the maker's name of 'Lightning' to the front of it. Press studs are used throughout for the pockets and cuffs which is a detail reinstated from the Beadon pattern suit. There is an integral waist belt which fastens with a metal buckle and various pockets are positioned around the suit, including a pen pocket to the upper portion of the left sleeve. The original owner has added a small blade implement and a pencil to the map pocket on the right leg and both are secured to the suit with a piece of string which is a nice period detail.
Inside the suit the original label is still present and is clear and legible. It bears the size of 6 to the top and the size details are found below this. The RAF stores reference number of 22C/1614 is also present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.
The suit is in good condition with various signs of wear and age. It displays well with no serious problems or flaws but please take time to study the pictures as this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have issues commensurate with age.
A nice example of this hard to find pattern of suit!
