Rare 1945 Dated RAF 'Suits Combination Drab' British Overalls

A rare original 1945 dated RAF 'Suits Combination Drab' as used by Royal Air Force ground crew and mechanics during the Second World War. 

These overalls are typical of the 1930s and 1940s in their cut. Made from a khaki coloured cotton drill material the overalls are a one piece design which fasten with buttons. A mandarin collar is found above this and a map pocket is located to the right leg which features a concealed button behind the flap. Interestingly there is no button hole to fasten the flap which may be a manufacturing error. Slash pocket openings are located to each hip to allow the wear access to trouser pockets underneath the overalls. A spanner pocket is located to the right leg seam. All the original buttons are present and interestingly are a mixture of brown and green. The rear of the overalls features a half belt and cinch back detail which is typical of the period. 

Inside the overalls the original label is still present and is grubby but still very legible. It states the size as No. 7 which is designed to fit a 36" - 38" chest. The manufacturer's name 'McCaw. Allen & Co Ltd' is present as is the 1945 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. 

When laid flat the overalls measure - 

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 25"
Inside leg - 29"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"

The overalls are in well worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are a plethora of marks and stains which really add character to the overalls. There is also a small hole to the seat and some other small issues commensurate with age. Overall they are very wearable still but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing. 

A rare set of wartime RAF overalls with a fantastic label! A must have for the serious RAF or workwear collector without a doubt.
