An original 1943 Dated Women's Land Army 'Overalls, Coats, Drill' in good, used condition.

This pattern of overall coat was used throughout the Second World War by the WLA and is often referred to as the 'Milking coat'. Like a lot of workwear produced during this period, this coat is made from a tan coloured cotton drill and features removable revolving shank buttons. It is cut as a jacket which is intended to sit above the knee and features two front pockets. The notched collar can be fastened across the wearer's neck with yet another green plastic button. The waist belt has been removed which was a common modification as they did not serve any great function and would have potentially got in the way during certain tasks. The lowest front button and one of the cuff buttons have been changed for horn / plastic examples which is another interesting period conversion.

Inside the coat the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Overalls, Coats, Drill, W. L. A' and has the size of medium which is designed to fit a 35" - 38" chest. The manufacturers name 'Tootal Broadhurst Lee Co Ltd' is present as is the 1943 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

When laid flat the coat measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 16"
Outside arm - 20 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length - 33"

The coat is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has been worn and has various stains and marks from use. Overall it displays well and is still very wearable but please study the pictures before purchasing.

A good original example with a clear label and wartime date.
