An original WW2 British Army officers khaki drill tunic which belonged to T. Rothwell who served with the Royal Engineers in the Far East during the Second World War and whilst undated is a guaranteed period item.

This tunic is the standard pattern of British Army officers tunic and made in a tan coloured cotton drill for wear in tropical climates. The tunic features pleated chest pockets with scalloped pocket flaps, bellows pockets to skirt and a notched collar. The tunic is fitted with a set of brass King's crown Royal Engineers buttons and there is evidence of where RE officers collar badges have previously been fitted.

The tunic features a functioning cuff which is a nice feature. There is no label or maker's name in the tunic but other items which belonged to this officer were made by Moss Bros which would mean this tunic was also quite possibly made by them. The epaulettes feature six hand stitched holes each meaning that the original owner was a captain. By the end of the war he was promoted Major which further helps date the tunic.

The jacket is a harder to find larger size which will fit a 40" chest well. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 17 3/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"
Length - 29 1/2"

The tunic is in good condition overall with some signs of wear and use as well as some staining. It is a vintage, pre-worn item which has flaws commensurate with age. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A nice original wartime tunic in a harder to find larger size.
