An original 1943 Dated Women's Land Army 'Overalls, Coats, Drill' in excellent condition.

This pattern of overall coat was used throughout the Second World War by the WLA and is often referred to as the 'Milking coat'. Like a lot of workwear produced during this period, this coat is made from a tan coloured cotton drill and features removable revolving shank buttons. It is cut as a jacket which is intended to sit above the knee and features two front pockets and a waist belt which fastens with two brown plastic buttons. The notched collar can be fastened across the wearer's neck with yet another brown plastic button.

Inside the coat the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Overalls, Coats, Drill, Women's Land Army' and the size of 18 which is designed to fit a 38" - 40" bust. The manufacturer's name of 'J. Harvey Ltd' is present as is the 1943 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. There is also a faint War Department acceptance stamp as detailed in picture 9. It is surmounted by the letter 'N' which denotes 1943 as the year of issue.

When laid flat the coat measures -

Chest - 211/4"
Wasit - 17"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 38"

The coat is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has clearly only seen very light wear, if any. It is still a deep, bronze colour and is very bright and fresh. There are three marks to the rear and a very small hole to the back of the sleeve but apart from that it is in very fine condition. Overall it displays very well indeed but please study the pictures before purchasing.

A nice original example with a good clear label and wartime date.
